For Professionals
At Evoke Learning, we specialize in research-informed academic support and intervention, coaching, and tutoring for neurodivergent students from Grade 1–postsecondary. We work with students who have learning disabilities, ADHD, ASD, executive function deficits, and giftedness, as well as students who are simply struggling to reach their academic potential, and we frequently partner with professionals in our community who may be supporting the same families.
Evoke was founded in 2008 as a grassroots response to an identified gap in services for exceptional students. Since then, we have grown into a multidisciplinary team that includes registered social workers, registered psychotherapists, speech-language pathologists, certified professional coaches, communicative disorders assistants, and educators. Most of our services are supervised or delivered by a registered professional, which means that many families can access Evoke’s services—in whole or in part—through their private health benefits. Families whose children receive Ontario Autism Program (OAP) funding may also be able to use that funding toward eligible services.
Our services include:
- ADHD and executive function coaching: for students in Grade 9–postsecondary, with a focus on planning, time management, organization, self-regulation, and task initiation. Our ADHD and executive function coaches are registered psychotherapists or registered social workers certified in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), in addition to their coaching credentials.
- Reading, writing, and math intervention: for students in Grades 1–12. We recognize that lower-order skills, such as phonological awareness, serve as necessary foundations for higher-order skills. Our intervention programs therefore target difficulties in foundational reading and writing skills to improve higher-level literacy achievement, helping students become strategic, confident readers and writers. In math, we apply the same evidence-informed approach, explicitly targeting foundational math skills to help students access grade-level content more successfully.
- Tutoring in English, math, and science: for students in Grade 4–postsecondary. Our tutoring programs are designed to help students keep up with their current class, understand homework, prepare for tests and exams, and clear up any confusion before it becomes a bigger problem. We help students feel confident and on track.
- Academic and writing strategies: learning strategies and skill development (how to study; effective note-taking; the use of assistive technology for reading, writing, note-taking, and organization) and executive function support for students in Grade 4–postsecondary. Assistive technology support is woven into our reading and writing intervention programs, as well as this program, ensuring students can access the curriculum while building their skills. Our assistive technology support is particularly beneficial for students who experience challenges because of slower processing speed, fine-motor control, and visual-motor coordination.
- Postsecondary preparation: for students in Grades 10–12 who are transitioning to university or college
- Summer programs: designed to help students get caught up and close academic gaps, strengthen executive function skills, and build confidence between school years
All our sessions are delivered virtually, one-to-one, and available seven days a week.
We have found that the online model works particularly well for our students: The format allows our team to focus entirely on the individual student’s needs, and the virtual environment removes barriers related to transportation, scheduling, and the social anxiety that can accompany in-person settings. Our students are engaged, our practitioners are skilled at building rapport and connection online, and outcomes are excellent.
Our reading intervention program is grounded in the science of reading and cognitive science.
Our instructional practices are informed by decades of research in cognitive science, literacy development, and evidence-based reading instruction. We incorporate all the principles associated with structured literacy and the science of reading to support lasting literacy growth. Our program provides explicit, systematic, cumulative, and diagnostic instruction grounded in the science of reading, with targeted support in phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, spelling, fluency, vocabulary, morphology, and comprehension through individualized, evidence-based instruction designed to build confident, capable readers.

Our writing intervention recognizes that dyslexia is both a reading and writing disability.
Students with dyslexia require explicit instruction and support in reading and writing skills, specifically spelling and written composition. Our writing programs use the self-regulated strategy development (SRSD) model, an evidence-based approach that explicitly teaches students writing strategies alongside the self-regulation skills needed to use them independently and effectively.
Evoke recognizes that accommodations alone are insufficient for long-term success.
While accommodations reduce barriers, they do not build the underlying skills students need for independent functioning. Research indicates that when students rely solely on external supports, they may continue to experience difficulties as academic demands increase. Evoke’s skill-building interventions go beyond accommodation by providing direct instruction in foundational and strategic skills, improving long-term outcomes and supporting genuine independence.
Our approach is rooted in curiosity rather than judgment.
We do not believe that students choose to struggle. Rather, we understand there are situational, emotional, and neurological barriers that get in the way—including the effect of impairments in cognitive processes such as working memory and processing speed—as well as executive function deficits that affect a student’s ability to plan, initiate, organize, and self-regulate their learning. Understanding these barriers allows our team to identify the root cause of a student’s difficulties before prescribing solutions. This philosophy shapes how we begin every client relationship: with a structured intake process.
Our intake process involves three steps: a thorough review of the student’s relevant background documents (including any psychoeducational assessments, IEPs or letters of accommodation, school learning plans, parent and student questionnaires, and report cards); the development of an individualized student intervention and treatment plan based on the student’s strengths, challenges, goals, and identified barriers; and a videoconference meeting with the family to review the plan and confirm recommended next steps. This process ensures that every student we work with receives support that is genuinely tailored to their needs, and not a generalized program applied uniformly.
