About Evoke Learning
At Evoke Learning, we specialize in research-informed academic support, intervention, coaching, and tutoring for neurodivergent students from Grade 1 through postsecondary. Evoke’s Reading Remediation Program
Our program begins with a comprehensive understanding of each student’s unique reading, writing, language comprehension, and spelling (encoding) profile, including their strengths, challenges, and underlying skill gaps. We provide explicit, systematic, and individualized instruction targeting the foundational skills required for reading success, including phonological awareness, decoding, spelling/encoding, fluency, writing, and language development.
Through high-frequency, high-dosage intervention delivered by trained reading practitioners, students receive the consistent instruction and support needed to build automaticity, confidence, and independence as readers.
Student progress is carefully monitored using standardized and research-informed assessments to ensure intervention remains effective, responsive, and individualized.

Position Overview
The speech-language pathologist (SLP) is a part-time independent contractor role. The SLP provides virtual reading, writing, and spelling assessments for elementary and secondary students across Ontario.
The SLP will assess students’ current literacy skills before beginning Evoke’s Reading Remediation program and will complete follow-up assessments after approximately 50 hours of intervention to measure progress and help guide next steps.
The purpose of the assessment is to develop a clear understanding of the student’s literacy profile, identify underlying barriers affecting reading and writing development, establish a baseline for progress monitoring, and ensure intervention is targeted, precise, individualized, and research-informed.

Independent Contractor Relationship
This is an independent contractor opportunity. The successful candidate will operate as an independent professional responsible for providing clinical assessment services to Evoke Learning clients.
The SLP will maintain professional autonomy and independence, including:
- Determining their own availability during Evoke assessment hours and selecting the number of students they wish to assess based on their capacity and schedule
- Maintaining responsibility for their own professional judgment, assessment methodology, clinical decision-making, and recommendations
- Managing their own scheduling within mutually agreed-upon assessment availability windows
- Providing their own professional assessment materials, testing supplies, secure video platform, electronic documentation system, and equipment required to complete virtual assessments
- Maintaining responsibility for their own professional registration, continuing education, insurance requirements, and professional obligations
- Determining their own business practices and managing their own tax obligations as an independent contractor
- Having the ability to provide services to other organizations and clients, provided there is no conflict of interest or confidentiality concern
The SLP will use Evoke Learning’s EMR software (Jane app) to schedule client bookings, for clinical charting or notes, to store intake forms, to track client session attendance, and for appointment reminders. The SLP is also welcome to use the Jane app to conduct virtual assessments if they prefer, but the choice is theirs.
Evoke Learning provides client referrals, assessment templates, and access to a collaborative, multidisciplinary, professional network.
The SLP determines their own caseload and may accept the number of assessments that aligns with their professional availability, within Evoke Learning’s assessment hours.

Schedule and Availability
- Minimum availability: six hours per week, approximately 22–25 hours per month
- Assessments occur during:
- Monday–Friday: 8 am–3 pm
- Saturdays and Sundays (priority given to candidates available for at least one half weekend day)
- PA days during daytime hours (8 am–4 pm)
Students do not complete reading assessments after a full day of school, as fatigue may negatively impact assessment validity.
Key Responsibilities
Student Assessment Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive virtual reading, writing, and spelling assessments for students referred through Evoke Learning.
- Administer standardized and research-informed literacy assessments.
- Review student intake information and relevant background information prior to assessment.
- Identify students’ literacy strengths, challenges, and specific areas requiring intervention.
- Analyze assessment results to determine underlying skill gaps impacting literacy development.
- Identify patterns consistent with dyslexia and other language-based learning difficulties.
- Provide recommendations regarding intervention needs, accommodations, and additional assessment when appropriate.
- Complete Evoke Learning assessment summary templates.
Assessment Scheduling and Client Communication
- Contact referred families within 24 business hours of referral.
- Schedule assessments within eight business days of receiving referral information.
- Follow Evoke Learning’s reading skills assessment scheduling policy
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with students and families.
Assessment Reporting
- Prepare clear, comprehensive assessment reports and summaries.
- Complete assessment documentation within five business days following assessment completion.
- Use Evoke Learning templates while maintaining independent professional judgment regarding clinical findings and recommendations.
- Upload reports and assessment documentation securely according to Evoke Learning’s procedures.
- Provide families with a brief consultation call regarding assessment results when requested.
Progress Monitoring Assessments. Following approximately 50 hours of reading intervention, the SLP will:
- Measure student growth and response to intervention through research-informed and standardized assessments.
- Identify areas of improvement and remaining skill gaps.
- Determine whether instructional approaches require modification.
- Evaluate whether foundational literacy skills are developing.
- Provide objective evidence of intervention effectiveness.
- Support families in understanding student progress and ongoing needs.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate assessment records.
- Upload documentation to secure electronic systems.
- Participate in administrative processes related to assessment tracking.
- Complete accommodation recommendation letters when requested.
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate must have:
- Master’s degree in speech-language pathology
- Registration in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
- Current professional liability insurance
- Minimum two years of experience conducting virtual literacy assessments or treatment
- Experience assessing reading, writing, and spelling skills
- Experience working with elementary and secondary students
Required Assessment Knowledge and Experience
Candidates must be familiar with administering and interpreting:
- CTOPP-2 – Comprehensive Test of Phonological Processing, Second Edition
- PAST – Phonological Awareness Screening Test
- GE Test – Gallistel–Ellis Test of Coding Skills
- Morrison–McCaul Spelling Scale
- TILLS – Test of Integrated Language and Literacy Skills
Candidates must demonstrate a strong understanding of:
- The science of reading
- Structured literacy principles
- Dyslexia and evidence-based reading intervention
- Phonological awareness
- Decoding and word recognition
- Orthographic mapping
- Reading fluency
- Spelling/encoding development
- Language comprehension
- Writing development
Preferred Qualifications and Assets
Preference will be given to candidates who have:
- Experience assessing students with dyslexia, ADHD, ASD, and learning disabilities
- Experience identifying cognitive factors impacting literacy development, including:
- Rapid automatized naming (RAN)
- Phonological memory
- Working memory
- Processing speed
- Experience distinguishing between skill gaps and compensatory reading strategies (spelling and whole-word reading compensating patterns)
- Experience identifying when a student may require a full psychoeducational assessment
- Experience writing accommodation recommendations
- Experience collaborating with educators, psychologists, health-care providers, and families

Compensation and Support
Hourly rate: $80 to $100/hour
Average commitment: six hours/week (22–25 hours/month)
