Type: Part-time, temporary (one-year contract with option for extension)

Availability: Monday–Friday required; Saturday or Sunday availability is an asset

Hourly Rate: $29–$32

Reports to: Reading Remediation Team Lead

About the Role

Evoke offers an intensive, research-informed Reading Remediation program grounded in the science of reading. Delivered one-to-one via 30-minute virtual sessions five days a week, this high-dosage intervention serves students from Grade 1 through postsecondary, including those with learning disabilities, ADHD, ASD, and/or giftedness.

As a reading intervention specialist, you will deliver evidence-aligned, explicit, and systematic instruction targeting foundational literacy skills: phonemic awareness, phonics, orthography, fluency, syntax, spelling, vocabulary, morphology, and comprehension. You will work within a structured curriculum with the ongoing support of a team lead. No prior clinical experience required.

This role requires a one-year commitment. Consistent, ongoing support is essential to our students’ progress, and only candidates who can fulfill the full contract term will be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver interactive, engaging, evidence-aligned virtual reading instruction to neurodivergent students using
  • Evoke’s curriculum, lesson plans, and resources.
  • Follow individualized student intervention plans under the guidance of a team lead.
  • Screen, monitor, and assess student progress using Evoke’s assessment tools.
  • Adjust instruction based on ongoing progress data and team lead direction.
  • Scaffold learning by breaking tasks into manageable steps and gradually releasing support to build independence.
  • Help students analyze errors to identify patterns, misunderstandings, and skill gaps.
  • Provide immediate, constructive feedback that builds motivation and confidence.
  • Adapt methods to meet the needs of students with diverse learning challenges, including dyslexia, ADHD, slow processing speed, RAN deficits, and working memory difficulties.
  • Record progress via monthly reports and weekly session notes in the Jane app.
  • Meet monthly with the Reading Remediation team lead to review student progress and SMART goals.
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and supportive team culture.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in applied linguistics, linguistics and discourse studies, communication sciences and disorders, psycholinguistics, or a related discipline; a postgraduate degree in communicative disorders is preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of language structure (phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics), language acquisition and development, and the cognitive processes underlying reading
  • Proficiency with productivity and collaboration tools (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace) and teleconferencing platforms (Zoom, Google Meet)
  • Comfort using online instructional tools such as interactive whiteboards and digital letter tiles
  • Experience and comfort working in a virtual environment

Available Shifts

  • Morning: 7:15–8:20 am
  • Afternoon: 3:30–5:10 pm
  • Evening: 5:15–7:50 pm
  • Weekend: Saturday or Sunday half-day (asset)

Work Environment and Technology

This is a fully virtual role. Employees must provide and maintain their own computer, reliable high-speed internet, webcam, headset, and microphone. Evoke will provide either a monthly stipend to help offset internet and platform costs or access to Evokeʼs teleconferencing platform at no cost.

Pre-Employment Requirements

Successful candidates must complete a thorough background check, including vulnerable-sector screening, and a reading skills assessment. All specialists participate in a paid initial training session before beginning work.
