Online Academic Support: Providing Students With Equitable and Inclusive Opportunities to Advance Their Learning

Our practitioners use inclusive teaching methods to assist students in creating the necessary structure and routine required for self-directed learning. Our focus is on developing the strategies needed for independent learning and reinforcing both the understanding of academic work and time management skills. Our virtual services are a support for students and families choosing classroom or remote learning.

At Evoke, we specialize in math, science, and English tutoring; writing strategies; reading remediation (in both English and French); academic and ADHD coaching; student mentoring; executive functioning support; and the development of essential study skills.

Improve academic outcomes and ensure that grade-level proficiency and requirements are met for your student through Evoke’s Online Tutoring and Academic Support for math, science, and English.

ADHD and Academic Coaching supports clients in defining and achieving their learning objectives. Evoke helps students develop critical cognitive thinking skills, improve executive functioning skills (including planning and organization), and set and achieve academic goals.

Evoke’s Reading Remediation program teaches students research-validated reading skills, builds an essential foundation in literacy, and is suitable for French-immersion or English students.

Master the strategies to assist with every phase of the writing process, from brainstorming and goal setting to proofreading and revision—strategies that have been researched and proven to work with students at all levels, especially those who are challenged by learning disabilities—through Evoke’s Academic Writing Strategies Program.

Students learn how to develop executive functioning skills and the key foundational concepts necessary for academic performance, such as study skills, note-taking, time management, and the science of learning, through our Academic Foundations program.

Strengthen and manage executive functioning skills, stay organized, plan ahead, initiate work, navigate an online curriculum, and remain on task with the structure and support of Evoke’s Facilitated Focus, a program that helps students establish a link between their long-term goals and the daily behaviour they need to achieve them.

Tutoring and Online Academic Support

Evoke offers specialized one-to-one tutoring sessions to help students learn and/or review important skills and concepts, master material, address their learning deficits, and bridge learning gaps to improve academic outcomes. Our tutors work with students to effectively and efficiently bring them up to grade level and provide the detailed personalized instruction they need to succeed. ADHD and Academic Coaching

Coaching helps students achieve their academic and personal goals and acquire new skills and approaches to their learning. Utilizing goal setting, encouragement, and structure, Evoke’s Academic Coaching helps struggling students establish strong work habits, develop effective learning skills and strategies, and strengthen and manage their executive functions. Academic coaching increases self-awareness and allows students to dig deeper to discover what’s getting in the way of their objectives, and provides the support and focus required to persevere and effectively manage transitions. Reading Remediation with Virtual Learning

Current cognitive science research indicates that the most important factor in reading comprehension is not mastering strategies. Learning to read consists of developing skills in two critical areas: decoding (reading text accurately and fluently) and sufficient language comprehension (i.e. background knowledge and vocabulary). Evoke uses research-validated strategies and interventions, based on the science of reading, to help students develop the phonological and phonemic awareness skills necessary to become proficient readers. Online Academic Writing Strategies

Evidence-based research demonstrates that struggling writers can improve their skills dramatically if they receive the detailed, explicit instruction they need (Graham & Harris, 2005). Such strategies can improve the writing skills of students with learning disabilities and are equally effective for individuals who just need extra help.

Evoke’s Academic Writing Strategies program teaches students evidence-based strategies that assist with every phase of the writing process. Together, the student and tutor will identify the greatest roadblocks to the student’s writing and choose the strategies that will best address their challenges. Academic Foundations: Strategies that Enhance Learning

Academic Foundations focuses on the key foundational concepts necessary for academic performance. Students are introduced to information, resources, strategies, and tools that help them strengthen executive functioning, navigate the curriculum, enhance their learning, and organizational, time management, and study skills. Facilitated Focus: Online Academic Mentoring and Executive Functioning Support

Our mentoring program helps students who are easily discouraged or find it difficult to stay organized, plan ahead, initiate work, and remain on task. Our Facilitated Focus program helps guide students develop the mental and physical habits required to achieve long-term goals and establish a link to the daily behaviour they need in order to achieve them.

Mentors work directly with students to address challenges as they arise and guide them through how to initiate and break down assignments into manageable chunks. Students also receive support for organizing their materials, and developing the academic perseverance and self-control required to focus on tasks.
